What our customers say

Troubleshooting your Bonaire gas heater

If you notice your Bonaire gas heater acting strangely, there are a few steps you can take to fix common heating problems before you ever have to call us:

Your heating system won’t turn on

This could be caused by an incorrect thermostat, an activated safety switch, or a tripped circuit breaker. To resolve it, we recommend checking your thermostat and mode settings, examining and resetting your circuit breaker box, and performing a whole system reset. To do this, turn your Bonaire gas heater off, wait 5 minutes, and then turn it on again.

Cold air comes out of the heater

If your heater starts blowing cold air into your room instead of warm air, your thermostat may be set to fan-only mode. You could also be experiencing ignition or combustion problems, or sensor faults, which are forcing shutdowns.

When this happens, check your thermostat settings and make sure your system isn’t set to fan-only mode. Then, perform a system reset by turning off your heater and powering it back up again.

The heater starts and stops working quickly

When this happens, your system may have triggered its overheating protection mechanism. You could also have blocked vents and dirty filters, or some internal sensor faults.

While attempting to resolve this, make sure to clear air input and output valves, and restart your system after cleaning. Always make sure you clean or replace your filters regularly to avoid shutdowns.

Unusual noises

If you hear any buzzing, shaking, or grinding noises coming from your Bonaire ducted gas heater, it may indicate that an external object has become stuck inside your vents.

Your system could also have damaged internal parts. After noticing such noises, be sure to inspect your system’s visible parts and identify the presence of any objects.

Should your system still experience any issues after trying these fixes, contact Climate Plus for assistance. We’ll send our qualified team over to help bring your system back to peak performance.

Bonaire service FAQs

What are the benefits of regular Bonaire services?

Benefits of regularly maintaining your Bonaire system include:

  • Better energy efficiency: Even small issues like a dirty filter or blocked airflow can cause your Bonaire system to overwork, using more gas and inflating your utility bill. Regular servicing ensures clean, unrestricted airflow and more energy efficient heating and cooling.
  • Reliable performance: A well-maintained Bonaire heater is less likely to experience issues like inconsistent temperatures, frequent cycling or delays in heating. Your family can enjoy dependable warmth exactly when you need it.
  • Lower risk of breakdowns: By catching small problems early, you avoid the inconvenience and cost of major repairs. Our team focuses on preventative care to keep your heater operating reliably all season.
  • Safe operation: As gas appliances, Bonaire systems must be checked for carbon monoxide leaks, gas line integrity and proper ventilation. Safety is always a top priority during every Climate Plus service.
  • Extended system life: A well-serviced Bonaire unit lasts longer. Annual maintenance helps reduce stress on parts and preserves your system’s performance year after year.

What are the signs my Bonaire heater should be serviced?

If your Bonaire gas heater shows the following signs, contact Climate Plus for a swift service:

  • You notice strange smells or sounds when the heater is running.
  • The system struggles to heat your home or takes longer than usual.
  • Airflow is weak or inconsistent between rooms.
  • Gas bills are rising unexpectedly.
  • The unit is cycling on and off more frequently.
  • Dust buildup is visible around vents.
  • It’s been more than a year since the last service.

Why is my Bonaire heater not working?

Your Bonaire ducted gas heating system may not be working for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Thermostat issues
  • Tripped circuit breakers
  • Incorrect settings
  • External objects lodged in your air ducts

If our suggested solutions cannot safely resolve your heater’s problems, book a service with Climate Plus. We’ll help identify and fix your system’s issues.

Can I service a Bonaire gas heater myself?

No. Servicing your Bonaire system by yourself is illegal and potentially dangerous, and should only be carried out by certified professionals. Each of our technicians is fully licensed to carry out all aspects of gas heating repair, so call Climate Plus if you have any concerns for your system.

Are Bonaire and Vulcan gas heaters the same?

Bonaire and Vulcan are two different brands of gas heater that are now owned by the same company, Climate Technologies. Though Vulcan gas systems are no longer being produced, we still service them alongside the Bonaire brand.

What does error code E1 mean on a Bonaire gas heater?

Error code E1 on a Bonaire gas heater indicates that your system has encountered an overheating fault. To resolve this, we recommend clearing your vents and filters of any dust or objects, and then resetting your system.

If the E1 error code persists, book a service with Climate Plus. We’ll examine your system, and can identify and resolve the cause of your overheating error.
